What happens when we truly listen to our own voices?
"Talking With Our Voices" is a live performance that turns speaking into dialogue — between the self and its echo, between sound and memory. Using live recording, playback, and improvisational movement, the performers weave a dense acoustic landscape where the voice becomes both question and answer.
The piece explores the intimacy and strangeness of hearing oneself speak, tracing the fine line between inner monologue and public resonance. It invites the audience into a shared space of vibration — where language dissolves into texture and the invisible becomes audible.
"Talking With Our Voices" is an experiment in presence, vulnerability, and the multiplicity that lives within every voice we call our own.
Artists
Ilmārs Šterns is a Latvian-born composer and performer working at the intersection of sound, movement, and object. His practice extends gesture and voice through object interaction, creating new forms of musical performance in which body and object co-author improvisations. A member of PANCH and Pakt-Bern, he was nominated for the 2020 Art Award (Ober-Gerwern, Bern) and won first prize at the 2016 Baltic Acoustic Festival “Silver Gull”. He holds master’s degrees in Contemporary Music, Scenography, and Performing & Sound Art.
Ilka Theurich is a Hannover-based performance and sound artist whose work investigates the political and social dimensions of space through long-duration, site-specific, and participatory performance. Moving between visual performance, sound, and critical spatial practice, she creates process-oriented formats that question horizontality, public space, and embodied presence. In 2023, she received the Annual Scholarship for Fine Arts from the State of Lower Saxony. Her performances have been presented at international festivals including OPEN (China), ZERO PLATFORM (Myanmar), and alongside the Venice Architecture Biennale, as well as residencies such as MeetFactory in Prague.

Talking With Our Voices ist eine Live-Performance, die das Sprechen in einen Dialog verwandelt — zwischen dem Selbst und seinem Echo, zwischen Klang und Erinnerung. Durch Live-Aufnahme, Wiedergabe und improvisatorische Bewegung weben die Performer eine dichte akustische Landschaft, in der die Stimme zugleich Frage und Antwort wird.
Das Stück erforscht die Intimität und Fremdheit des eigenen Sprechens und zeichnet die feine Grenze zwischen innerem Monolog und öffentlicher Resonanz nach. Es lädt das Publikum in einen geteilten Raum der Schwingung ein — dort, wo Sprache sich in Textur auflöst und das Unsichtbare hörbar wird.
Talking With Our Voices ist ein Experiment über Präsenz, Verletzlichkeit und die Vielstimmigkeit, die in jeder Stimme lebt, die wir als unsere eigene bezeichnen.
Künstler:innen
Ilmārs Šterns ist ein in Lettland geborener Komponist und Performer, der an der Schnittstelle von Klang, Bewegung und Objekt arbeitet. Seine Praxis erweitert Geste und Stimme durch die Interaktion mit Objekten und schafft neue Formen des musikalischen Performens, in denen Körper und Objekt gemeinsam Improvisationen hervorbringen. Als Mitglied von PANCH und Pakt-Bern wurde er 2020 für den Kunstpreis Ober-Gerwern (Bern) nominiert und gewann den ersten Preis beim Baltic Acoustic Festival „Silver Gull“ im Jahr 2016. Er besitzt Masterabschlüsse in Zeitgenössischer Musik, Szenografie sowie Performance- & Sound Art.
Ilka Theurich ist eine in Hannover ansässige Performance- und Klangkünstlerin, deren Arbeit die politischen und sozialen Dimensionen von Raum durch langlebige, ortsspezifische und partizipative Performances untersucht. Zwischen visueller Performance, Klang und kritischer Raumpraktik bewegend, entwickelt sie prozessorientierte Formate, die horizontale Demokratie, öffentlichen Raum und verkörperte Präsenz hinterfragen. Im Jahr 2023 erhielt sie das Jahresstipendium für Bildende Kunst des Landes Niedersachsen. Ihre Performances wurden auf internationalen Festivals gezeigt, darunter OPEN (China), ZERO PLATFORM (Myanmar) sowie parallel zur Architekturbiennale Venedig, und sie war u. a. Artist in Residence in der MeetFactory in Prag.
