Becky O'Brien stammt aus Irland und arbeitet in London. O'Brien ist Performance-Künstlerin, Tänzerin und Mitglied des Netzwerkes Cuntemporary. Ihre Arbeiten variieren von körperbetonter Performance-Kunst bis hin zu choreografierten Tanz-Arbeiten. Sie untersucht in ihren Arbeiten schwerpunktmäßig Themen wie Gender, Identität und Sexualität mit einem queer/feministischen Ansatz. O'Brien benutzt ihren Körper als politische Kraft, um die Konstruktion ihrer eigenen Identität und die Frage, wo ihr weiblicher Körper in Bezug auf Kunst und Gesellschaft liegt, in Frage zu stellen: “I use my body as a political force to question the construction of my own identity and where my female body lies in relation to art and to society.”
O'Brien verbindet in ihren Arbeiten neue Online-Communities mit ihrem realen Körper in Live-Performances und nutzt die Möglichkeiten von Echtzeit-Technologie und Social Media. Ihre Arbeiten auf Cam-Sites nutzen das Internet als Medium, um nicht nur vor neuen Zuschauern aufzutreten, sondern auch, um Arbeiten zu entwickeln, die es diesen Online-Kulturen und der damit verbundenen neuen Online-Sprache ermöglichen, durch Humor selbst performativ zu werden.
Sie ist daran interessiert, die Öffentlichkeit privat und das Private öffentlich zu erkunden, und sich darauf zu konzentrieren, wie das Internet die Art und Weise verändert, in der wir sozial und sexuell mit anderen interagieren, und wie es unsere angeborenen Wünsche beeinflusst. Becky O'Brien's performatives Werk fordert die Normen in Bezug auf sexuelle Befreiung und Sex-Arbeit heraus.
Im Studio : Ilka Theurich wird Becky O'Brien als Artist in Residence eine ganz neue Arbeit entwickeln. Sie wird sowohl ortsspezifisch im Stadtraum als auch im Studio performative Handlungen untersuchen, die ihren queer/feministischen Ansatz fortsetzt.

Becky O'Brien is from Ireland and works in London. O'Brien is a performance artist, dancer and member of the network Cuntemporary. Her works vary from body-oriented performance art to choreographed dance work. In her work, she focuses on topics such as gender, identity and sexuality with a queer / feminist approach. O'Brien uses her body as a political force to question the construction of her own identity and the question of where her female body is in relation to art and society: “I use my body as a political force to question the construction of my own identity and where my female body lies in relation to art and to society.”
In her work, O'Brien combines new online communities with her real body in live performances, using the power of real-time technology and social media. Her work on cam sites uses the Internet as a medium to not only present in front of new audiences, but also to develop works that allow these online cultures and the associated new online language to be performative through humor itself.
She is interested to explore the public in private and the private in publicly worlds. She is focusing on how the Internet is changing the way we interact socially and sexually with others, and how it affects our innate desires. Becky O'Brien's performative work challenges the norms of sexual liberation and sex work.
During her residenciy in the Studio: Ilka Theurich, Becky O'Brien will be developing a whole new work. She will investigate performative actions both site-specifically in urban space and in the studio, continuing her queer / feminist approach.
